The Best Winter Scenic Flying in 2022
We have been lucky enough here in Wanaka over the last few weeks to have received a hefty amount of snow to kick off the 2022 Winter Season!
One way to really explore the best of what our region has to offer in the winter is to get above the mountains by exploring the area by helicopter. You get to experience the best views and secluded landing spots that our region has to offer all without putting your hiking or ski boots on.
Winter in our region is about wrapping up and taking in the beauty of our unique environment, so we have put together our Top Winter Scenic Flying Experiences for you for in 2022.
Coromandel Peak (AKA Mt Roy)
Visitors from far and wide come to Wanaka to get to the top of the notorious Mt Roy. Mt Roy which is situated just a 10 minute drive from the Wanaka township and it overlooks Lake Wanaka and gives 360 degree views up towards Mt Aspiring and into the National Park.
Our Wanaka Max scenic flight takes you on an extended flight across Lake Wanaka and up the Matukituki Valley where you take in views of the Mt Aspiring National Park. Landing at the Peninsular or up the Matukituki Valley and then on Coromandel Peak (Mt Roy) this really is a great, quick flight where you get to experience some famous Wanaka views. Mt Aspiring
Our Mt Aspiring Explorer is an extended flight which circumnavigates Mount Aspiring which is New Zealand’s highest mountain outside of the Mt Cook region sitting at 3033m.
The flight gives you the luxury of two alpine landings (hopefully both with snow!) as well as amazing views of Mt Aspiring, massive glaciers, cascading waterfalls and native bush of this World Heritage site.
