Packing for your Roar Helicopter Trip

Each year we get excited for the roar trips we do and we get excited for our clients heading into the bush for a week of hunting. These trips are highly anticipated and sometimes if it is your first heli drop for the roar or you have just gone and bought loads of new gear specifically for the event, it is easy to get carried away with what you need to take.

NZ Hunter have put together this quick video which helps to give some tips on what to pack and what not to pack for your helicopter trip. They go through each item with suggested alternatives to bulky, heavy items which are dangerous to take on the helicopter and have the potential to contribute to exceeding weight limits which apply when we are flying.

Here at Wanaka Helicopters we have weight limits and restricted item rules so it is worth being informed on what you can and can’t bring on board to ensure you are prepped for your roar trip and don’t have to leave any items behind. If you need to check which items you can and can’t bring it’s best to get in touch with one of our team prior to your trip.

We are excited for the upcoming roar season and we hope that our clients who have booked with us are too! If you want to enquire about making a booking for the roar just email us at [email protected]

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) limits the dangerous goods we can carry. Please take note of and apply the following limits to your gear list:

  • NO LPG bottles with passengers. No exceptions.
  • Ammunition: Max 5kg per person per load.
  • Butane gas cannisters: Max 1 kg per package (not bigger than 500 g each cannister).
  • White Spirits: Max 5 litres per load in approved containers (e.g. metal fuel flasks).
  • Petrol: Max 5 litres per load in approved containers (e.g. petrol/diesel jerries).
