Funding and Scholarships

We understand the funding challenges of flight training. Here are some key points:

  • Final Year FeesFree
    This provides $12,000 reimbursements after graduation.

  • Student Loans
    Currently capped at $70,000, with applications open now through StudyLink (select dates 19 Jan – 18 Dec 2026) for student loans and allowances to support study costs and living expenses in Wānaka.

  • Exchange Rates for International Students
    Training in NZ continues to be attractive for international applicants due to current exchange rates.

  • Wanaka Helicopters Scholarships Available

    • NZ Māori or Pasifika applicants: $10,000 (heli) | $4,000 (fixed wing)

    • Women in Aviation: $4,000 (heli) | $2,000 (fixed wing)

    • Allen Hogan Scholarship: $4,000 awards for applicants who have begun their training journey (5 hours flying or less).

    • Pauwels Scholarship & Iwi/Community Funding: We encourage all applicants to seek further funding support through their communities and iwi networks.

Join Our Live Diploma Q&A Sessions

Each year we run online Q&A information sessions where our instructors and training team cover everything you need to know about training with us here at Wanaka Helicopters. We highly recommend anyone considering applying for the Diploma in Aviation to attend these sessions to hear directly from our team and here answers to common questions.

This year we are running an evening session as well as a midday session. You can register your interest on our events to ensure you are notified when they are happening and keup up to date with any changes or updates.
